For many Allied soldiers, being a part of the massive invasion force to storm into German-occupied France on 6 June 1944 would be their first trip overseas.
In addition to fighting the Nazis to liberate France, the soldiers had to prepare to meet and interact with French citizens, whose support was necessary for a successful military campaign.
As a result, all Allied forces were provided with essential reading material such as guidebook, brochures
and leaflets, all designed to equip them with some basic knowledge of France.
