One of the common enduring images of Operation Overlord is that presented in the photograph taken several days after "D-Day" on the 6th of June 1944. The massive amount of military supplies, equipment, hardware as well as troops in the picture bolster the view that the "D-Day" plan worked very well and that the landings had been an overwhelming success.
The photograph is certainly a confidence-boosting one, but belies the more sobering truth behind the planning and execution of the whole operation itself.
