The following are my top choices for movies about D-Day.
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN
Is it worth the lives of seven men to locate and extract one private in the army. Add to that dilemma the confusion and chaos of the days following the D-Day landings, some great acting, dramatic cinematography and you have probably the best WWII movie ever made.

COUNTDOWN TO D-DAY
This HBO movie is more dramatic than gory, and makes a good attempt to peer into the mind of General Dwight Eisenhower, the commanding general in charge of Operation Overlord. Tom Selleck is excellent in his portrayal of the tensions that existed between himself and the other officers.
BAND OF BROTHERS
Once again, a first rate set of shows produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, following up on their Saving Private Ryan success. This series has received much acclaim for its vivid and heartfelt account of Easy Company from their training days right through to the end of war in the European theatre.
Episodes 1 and 2 focus on their part in Operation Overlord.
The History Buffs take a good and perceptive look at the very highly acclaimed mini series.
THE LONGEST DAY
This 1962 black and white epic movie will be long be regarded as the classic D-Day film. Overflowing with star actors and moving to a finely tuned plot, The Longest Day continues to enthrall viewers until today. Very well worth the watch.
THE BIG RED ONE
An older film, gritty and abrasive, Lee Marvin portrays the typical hard-nosed NCO who leads his young soldiers through the horror and terror of war.
