Biology Lab

Biology Lab (8-12)

Tutor: Katie Hietala

Description: This class is an introductory general biology lab course to complement the biology class. The students will work individually and in pairs to work through the 38 experiments aimed at hands-on learning of scientific methodologies and techniques. This section will include dissection of different specimens, microscopy, use of the scientific method, environmental effects on ecosystems, Mendelian genetics, biological classification, etc. Students will learn to keep a good laboratory notebook of all experimental findings. **This lab class is meant to complement the main biology lab class and should be taken together.**

Prerequisite: None

Texts: Exploring Creation with Biology, 2nd Edition (can be purchased used on Amazon or we have a few that can be checked out for the year)

Homework: Students should be prepared for class each week and ready with necessary supplies to perform lab work. Reading from the text that corresponds to lab experiments will be assigned as prep for each lab. Quizzes will be given each week to ensure preparedness. A syllabus and schedule will be provided to help facilitate work on non-class days.

Supply fee: A $35 one-time fee will be collected to cover the cost of copies, lab supplies, etc. When we begin dissections later in the year, a specimen fee will be collected at that time. A composition notebook is also required (black and white). Semester payment is preferred (1st semester $140/2nd semester $175).
