Description: In this course, we will go through the elements of drawing like line, shape, value, perspective and texture and learn how to apply them to both realistic and creative abstract forms of drawing and creating. We will also be digging more in depth to the basic principles of design such as balance, contrast, proportion, pattern/rhythm, emphasis and flow. We will explore how these principles can help us build realistic forms of art, but how we can intentionally tweak or change a principle of design to create a more intentional abstract or free form art piece. We will largely focus on realistic drawing, painting and watercolor. As we dig into these topics, we will be exploring examples of well known artists and styles as they apply. Students will layer the skills learned through various unique drawing exercises that will allow for opportunities of creative growth, exploration and expression. Students will learn and practice ways to creatively collaborate. Throughout this class discussions will also be held to practice how to critique honestly and kindly, how to encourage and support each other in their processes of creating.
