Algebra 1

*Semester Payment Preferred

Tutor: Karen Hustedde

Description: Algebra 1 begins with a review of Pre-Algebra concepts, but then moves on to cover the typical first year algebra topics. Lessons include solving many kinds of equations, functions, relations, graphing, quadratic equations, two-variable equations and inequalities.

Rukavina Academy uses Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1 as its curriculum. This curriculum includes lessons taught to the student via discs (2.0 version) or in the new 4.0 app. Both allow for students to input their answers for each lesson to get immediate feedback. Students are then provided with step-by-step instructions of how to solve each problem, if the problem was done incorrectly.

So why take an in-person class? Good Question! Here are my goals in teaching your students:

  • Answer students questions—a computer program cannot answer specific questions or interact with students!

  • Give instruction for the upcoming lessons AND have students practice these new skills with guidance.

  • Guide students in building their own Interactive Math Notebook throughout the year, helping students learn how to take notes and giving them a resource to refer to when they need some help.

  • Encourage students to write down their work in a notebook before entering their answers on the computer. Students who show their work are more likely to learn from their mistakes and excel in math courses.

  • Administer occasional quizzes to monitor progress. Tests will be administered at home by the parent; but these will be on paper, not on the computer. I will correct them to assess where each student is at and what topics we need to work on more.
