2012 - The Lazarus tour

Brown (Bill) defeated Pink (Toby) 7 1/2 points to 4 1/2 points

So devastating was the onslaught on Saturday that we might forget some of the scintillating golf that was played on the Friday. DC arrived, the day before his wedding, to lead off for Pinks (although in true Redyr Cup preparation he wore Brown) and the three Pink pairs dominated. We even had the strange sight of Simon Livingston having to get his allocated number of drives in for the round following the display of power hitting from Matt "grip it and rip it" Thompson. The closest game took place in match 3 where Hods and Tim Coller found themselves barely in the game after 15 holes, before overturning the de Montaignac/Walford juggernaut to take the match down 18. 3 - 0 up inside a morning (and early afternoon) and without a captain who was sunning himself on Horse-guards. The afternoon proved to follow a similar template as Pinks set the early pace in all three matches.

The arrival of the rain, and with it Brown's knight in shining armour - Tony Hill, playing off 12 - turned the tide on the Saturday morning. Ian Dougal and Tony overturned a 3 hole deficit after 9 to romp home winners in their game whilst across the board, what had been a light happy Pink, was now a soggy, yet victorious, Brown colour. Marcus Jefferson, having played with a distinct handicap in the fourballs (i.e. not having been given the right instructions by his playing partners!) now came into his own, guiding his foursomes partner, Lawrence, to victory then working well with Bill in the singles format to produce 2 winning points from their group. Some matches went to the wire and, for a third year running, Simon Livingston took his opponent down 18 with all to play for.

The quality of the golf, for yet another year running, has improved and we look forward to the North/South clash of 2013 with baited breath.
