STAY INFORMED WITH INTERNATIONAL NEWS

It seems impossible to find a single, reliable, source for news these days. Broadcast news and newspapers across the country have abandoned any pretense of balanced coverage and embraced the side that their viewers and readers most want to hear. Most media outlets seem to have adopted a non-objective viewpoint, usually for some social or political purpose. If you really want to hear both sides of the story, one way to do it is to check different international media outlets. Here are a few to consider...

CGTN is the Chinese Global news outlet. This news station was made to broadcast news from China around the world in different languages. It's run by the Chinese communist party but it's not as censored as you might think and is actually pretty good. There are a lot of good programs on here and they have a lot of interesting guests on their shows. "The Point" with Liu Xin is one that I like a lot. She always has a lot of interesting high level guests with differing opinions on her shows talking about why they disagree. It really illustrates the complexity of different issues. The travel and culture shows give you a real feel of what it's like to live in China.

Deutsche Welle (DW) is Germany's international broadcaster.  Germany is very a liberal democracy compared to the United States. This station was specifically made to focus around six topics: Freedom and human rights, democracy and good governance, free trade and social justice, technology and innovation, health education nutrition and environmental protection, and German and European culture.

RT is Russia's English-language channel from Moscow. This station was made to deliver stories often missed by the mainstream media to create news with an edge. RT provides an alternative perspective on major global events with the Russian viewpoint. It is interesting that RT was quickly taken off the internet for a while in the US when the war in Ukraine started.

Al Jazeera is an independent news organization funded in part by the Qatari government. Launched in 1996, Al Jazeera Arabic was the first independent news channel in the Arab world dedicated to providing comprehensive news and live debate. Al Jazeera English was launched in 2006. Their stated goal is to deliver content that captivates, informs, inspires and entertains. There's a lot of content here that covers things not covered in the mainstream media.

"France 24" is the international news channel from Paris. They have a large archive of previous episodes and news articles. You can search for previous content by date if you want all the way back to 2006.
