Surviving Climate Change

It seems obvious that the climate is changing. For whatever reason. We can see glaciers melting. Weather disasters seem to be more severe lately. One thing to be concerned about is flooding. It can happen almost anywhere. Floods often shut down transportation, power and water. If this happens to you here are a few things to think about...

Your most urgent need will probably be water. You can survive for a long time without food but without water you'll probably make it only 3 days. It's a good idea to keep a big stack of bottled water around just in case.

A pocket water filter pump is a good thing to have around. These things filter out all microorganisms larger than 0.2 microns to produce clear, drinkable water. One filter is good for around 60 gallons.

They sell these things for campers and hikers but they're nice to have around in case of nucellar war or something like that.

The plastic ones are around $100.

Shown here is a well made swiss purifier that costs around $400.

Emergency food supply.

I like keeping a well stocked canned foods area. Things like "Chef Boyardee" canned ravioli and Campbell's chicken soup. Tuna and sardines are great to have for protein.

Canned foods like this are great to have around in reserve because they last a long time.

Buckets of emergency food supply are nice to have around just to feel safe. These things last around 25 years and have 72 single serve packets and costs around $250 per bucket.

Emergency power is nice to have.

Gasoline powered emergency generators have a problem though.

Gasoline doesn't keep well. A can of gas that has been sitting in your shed all winter probably won't start your lawnmower. Liquid Propane Gas (or LPG) is easier to store.

Shown here is one that uses either gasoline or LPG. At 3500 Watts it will easily power a small home. It lists at $849.99

Shown here is a big 13,000 Watt Tri Fuel portable generator. It runs on gasoline, natural gas, or propane (LPG). It weighs in at 246 Pounds and costs $1,999.00.You can find it Here...

Vent less emergency heaters have oxygen sensors in them and are safe to use indoors. They require no electricity. Shown here is one that runs on either natural gas or Propane (LPG). It comes with little legs so you can set it on the floor or you can mount it on the wall. This 30,000 BTU heater costs $387.99

You can use your car or truck to generate electricity with a power inverter. These things enable you to plug ordinary household appliances right into your car. The small 300 Watt versions are cheap at around $25 and plug right in to your cars utility socket. The bigger ones are different. These things hook up directly to the battery terminals of your car/truck and provide 110AC output. The one shown here is a  $387.99 2000 Watt version.

You can use your solar/hand crank emergency radio to keep your cell phone charged. Modern emergency radios are essentially big rechargeable batteries with a radio stuck on them. Most of them have USB charger ports on them.

The one shown her has a large battery and can be charged with a hand crank or solar power. You can also charge it with a standard USB charger or it also uses 3 AAA batteries. It costs $32.39
