Introduction
We try to bring an engineering jargon into an ecological concepts on urban planning. It is the “interlocking”. Interlocking is to assemble the state of various mechanisms or functions mutually dependent. The final output of interlocking depends on the combination of input and output together. Interlocking may provide a device for preventing a mechanism from being set in motion when another mechanism is in such a position that the two operating simultaneously might produce undesirable results.
Manado is a coastal city harboring 5 major rivers that collect ecological impacts of 2000 ha catchment areas. The rivers vary in length and catchment areas.
The coastal area is a typical bay shaped. Deep sea. Vertical drops. Islands. Unique corals and fish.
Ecological elements that shapes the city. Upper catchment areas. Demographic burden. Center of development.
Research question
How to interlock the ecological elements to ensure sustainable infrastructure development in Manado?
Methods
Spatial simulation and analysis.
Results and Discussion
Land use and cover change.
