PIC18F4xxx microcontrollers are internally almost identical to PIC18F2xxx counterparts microntrollers, with the exception of ECCP unit instead of CCP unit and a few other modifications that were able to be implemented due to increased number of pins. PC USB Projects PIC18F2550 firmware v2.5 may be used on PIC18F4550 microcontrollers, but some inbuilt functionalities may need a few additional program lines to configure extra defaults, which are not present on PIC18F2xxx.
