l. Velleman K8055(N) and universal temperature sensor K8067

QUESTION:

I would like to use Velleman K8055 or K8055N experiment board with K8067 analog temperature sensor.

ANSWER:

K8067 needs external power supply with +12 V and min. 30 mA to produce output between 0 V and 5 V. The output voltage may therefore be directily connected to K8055 A/D 1 or A/D 2 input (don't forget to connect GNDs (grounds) of both kits). You can use either the original Velleman programmed K8055 or K8055N, or program your own PIC18F24J50 or PIC18F26J50 with FW from this site. This way you would be able to measure the temperature with 10-bits precision instead of only 8-bits. For more information read Connecting K8067 temperature sensors to K8055 and K8055N boards. There is also a much cheaper and better alternative. Should you decide to use PIC32MX250F128B microcontroller (look for K8055 or K8055N adapters or one of the basic circuits) there is also a low cost and much more precise option that requires no calibration (icy water... and other stuff...). Look at Home automation section for more ideas, how to precisely measure temperature.
