· ¾ cup shortening
· 1 cup sugar
· ¼ cup Brer Rabbit Molasses
· 1 egg
· 2 tsp. baking soda
· 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
· ½ tsp. cloves
· ½ tsp. ginger
· ½ tsp. salt
· 1 tsp. cinnamon
Melt shortening. Remove from heat and cool. Add sugar, molasses, and egg to a small bowl and beat well. Sift together flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and salt. Add the two mixtures; mix well and chill. Form in balls, roll in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheets 2 inches apart. Bake in oven at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Do not cook longer than 10 minutes.
