About the Training:

Are you ready to learn more about what you can do to protect your property from wildfire?

Have you ever wondered: After defensible space, what’s next?

It’s NOT ‘luck’ or ‘a miracle’ when homes survive wildfires! When it comes to wildfire risk, it is not a geographical location, but a set of conditions that determine the home’s ignition potential in any community. According to fire science research, individual efforts to reduce the loss of property DO make a difference even in the face of a catastrophic wildfire. Homeowners can and must take primary responsibility for wildfire safety action around the home.

NFPA’s “Assessing Residential Wildfire Hazards” is specially designed to give residents and Fire Safe Councils the knowledge necessary to prevent losses from wildfire while focusing on the Home Ignition Zone – defined as the home and its immediate surroundings up to 200 feet. The training teaches how to identify the hazards and reduce risks in the home ignition zone before a wildfire starts. By applying this knowledge of how wildland-urban interface (WUI) fires occur and by using new approaches, future WUI fire disasters can be significantly reduced.

The agenda for “Assessing Residential Wildfire Hazards” includes:

· Module 1 The Wildfire Threat: Perceptions versus Reality

· Module 2 Understanding Wildland/Urban Fire

· Module 3 Identifying and Mitigating Wildfire Hazards

· Module 4 Firewise Communities/USA®: From Residences to Communities

California Fire Safe Council is pleased to offer this important training to Fire Safe Councils and residents at no cost, thanks to generous support provided by Southern California Edison. Join us for a day of learning how to better protect our homes, communities and environment from wildfire.

Space is limited, so register TODAY! Registration closes on April 9, 2013. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. For questions and additional information, please contact Katie Martel at (626)335-7426 or kmartel@cafiresafecouncil.org.
