Our fourth lecture: 27-EASE (Route 27 Evacuation And Safety Enhancement) describes the NTCFSC’s voluntary program, funded through a grant from the California Fire Safe Council, to help those who own property on Topanga Canyon Boulevard remove hazardous vegetation –creating more safety in a fire emergency for residents to evacuate, and first responders to enter the canyon.
Thursday October 18th 2012 from 7 - 9 pm at the Topanga Library Community Room: 122 North Topanga Canyon Boulevard, Topanga CA 90290
Representatives from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the National Park Service, the California Fire Safe Council and the North Topanga Canyon Fire Safe Council will speak about:
The threat posed by hazardous vegetation: both as a potential ignition source and as a potential impediment to the flow of traffic on Route 27 (Topanga Canyon Blvd).
The long-term unsuitability of certain non-native vegetation to our Mediterranean Ecosystem.
The need for Route 27 to be free of obstructions in a fire emergency, and safety concerns for those who may be caught in traffic on this 2-lane road, which averages 16,000 daily commuters, and is the only way out of the canyon for approximately 10,000 residents.
How 27-EASE can help, by providing resources to private property owners on Topanga Canyon Blvd. who want to take positive action.
How the California Fire Safe Council operates, and how the grant for 27-EASE was awarded.
How 27-EASE can serve as a model for the rest of Topanga, by demonstrating positive community action, promoting fire awareness, and helping to restore our fire-resilient and scenic Mediterranean Ecosystem.
Please RSVP (because space is limited) to firesafe@ntcfsc.org.
This lecture series is co-sponsored by T-CEP and the Topanga Library (part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library system).
