April 17th 2012 "Understanding The Risk"

Presenters: Kathryn Kirkpatrick and Robert Taylor.

Kathryn Kirkpatrick and Robert Taylor work for the National Park Service Mediterranean Coast

Network, the three National Parks on the southern California coast: Santa

Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, Channel Islands National Park

and Cabrillo National Monument. They provide wildland fire and natural

resource protection related to wildfire and mitigating its impacts on pubic

safety and natural resources.

Kathryn is the Network's Fire Chief. She's been a federal wildland fire

fighter for 22 years holding fire positions for the US Forest Service and

National Park Service on wildland fire engines, hotshot and helitak crews.

She is an Operations Section Chief on a Type 1 Interagency Incident

Management Team. She has a BA in Social Science Environmental Emphasis from

SDSU.

Robert is a Biogeographer and Fire Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist supporting both

Resource Management and Fire programs in GIS, wildfire modelling, data

analysis and education, He has worked for the National Park Service for 11

years, He has a PhD in Geography from UCSB.
