Hi, my name is Sieta van Horck and I am currently 24 years old. During my Bachelors Media and Culture at the University of Amsterdam, I focused mainly on the digital media side and here I was lucky enough to find my passion. I am deeply intrigued by how people relate to technology and how they give meaning to the world around them using digital media.
During my third year of my Bachelor, I worked on a project at the MediaLAB Amsterdam (HvA) in collaboration with Submarine (Submarine). Here, I worked in an interdisciplinary team and created a data visualization tool that allows producers of interactive documentaries to analyze their user-behaviour (more information here). After finishing this project, I went to Bangalore, India for the MediaLAB Amsterdam. In collaboration with Cisco, IIIT-B (Technological University of Bangalore) and Fields of View (Fields of View) I worked on a project concerning waste management systems in the city of Bangalore. This resulted in a serious game called Rubbish! (more information here).
During these projects I found what I am really interested in; creating meaningful experiences for users, using interactive technologies. I have a great affinity for interactive installations, creating unexpected experiences for audiences that gives them food for thought. I also think this is a great way to bring science closer to the people by making them interact with it in a way that shows them a new perspective on the world.
Although I have a more theoretical background and am trained as a skilled researcher with the ability to analyze projects in a broader social framework, I am very exited to learn more about the technological side of these interactive projects. Building a bridge between academic knowledge and art and technology is what I'm currently looking for at the Media
Technology program.
