My first idea for this project was to create an interaction between our real three dimensional space and the two dimensional space used in films. More concisely I wanted to give the audience the opportunity of exploring the rich variety of sets on Alfred Hitchcock’s movies by controlling the playback (speed, forward, backward) of the video and the zoom to the image with their bodies. The idea was to watch a Hitchcock movie in a different way we are used to, by paying more attention to the details and symbols of the sets. This first idea was dropped out because some technical problems that I had with the use of the Kinect and open frameworks.
The resulting project, Blank Sheet, has been developed also within the framework of a physical interaction in a three dimensional space with a two dimensional space. With this project I wanted to use the drawing in its most basic form, that is the line, in order to create a whiteboard where the audience could move and draw around by using the mouse and a nanoKontrol midi keyboard, that is why I use a simple black line in a white canvas. This application let the user explore the two dimensional space of a whiteboard by moving the fingers up and down in the sliders and navigating the surface with the movement of the mouse in all direction. This project also conveys the idea of visual composition on real time that allows the user to create visual content related to sound and music, with some future improvements it could be use to produce live VJ sessions of digital drawing.
