Pierre Schaeffer is often mentioned as the father of sampling, looping and even of drone music. But his important influence in the history of music can’t be limited to a list of technical inventions. What Pierre Schaeffer revolutionized is the method to work with sound and to compose music. With his practical approach focused on experimentation he demystified the activity of composing. His musique concrete extended some of the early classical concepts related to the essence of music. Among others he radically reformed the concept of music composition, he faded the boundary between noise and music. Pierre Schaeffer taught us to shape noise in order to produce music.
