Are we aware of surveillance control? Of daily observations by CCTV cameras? Do we bother that our behavior is being monitored in a city like The Hague all day? Will the surveillance society stay like this or will we be capable of following others ourselves soon as well?
To what extent is surveillance helpful and good, and when does it bother people?
In this research I was wondering how far I could go with obviously filming people and recognizing their face. If my software recognized their face it would directly be projected on a mask. I did this to make people aware of the fact they are being watched daily. It was funny to see the distinguish between the reactions, where on the one hand art academy students mainly liked it, and stood in front as much as possible, and where on the other hand random passerby's sometimes got angry or asked me why I was doing it.
In order to realize this I started programming with Processing, this was the final software I used to finally recognize and project people their faces.
