You Can’t Be As Evil, As Much As I Can Be Good

Sarajevo. Somewhere between a tragedy and a myth, a place and a condition. The term is best understood as a metaphor.

What happens when you become a tool for ethnic nationalism in Bosnia? On one side, the Bosnian Muslims banish you from their culture and on the other side, the Serbian Nationalists claim you as one of their own.

Ivo Andrić, was a byproduct of this paradox. Andrić was a Yugoslavian novelist, who does not deserve to be tangled within the ethnic nationalism that exists in former Yugoslavia. His manuscript ‘The Bridge on the Drina’, was written in Latin and Cyrillic. As well as the inclusion of Andric’s manuscripts, I photographed civilian’s bookshelves from different religions and ethnical backgrounds to create relativism within his work, thus creating dignity for Ivo Andric.
