Math Minutes

Description

Mathematicians have created a ton of words in order to communicate ideas quickly and accurately. This way, rather than saying, "That number that's in front of the letter there being multiplied," people can just say "coefficient". However, if someone doesn't know all these words, they can get left behind.

Math Minutes is our time to review this vocabulary to prevent students from getting left behind. Everyday, a student will give a 2 minute presentation about a word or skill. Students in the audience will then take a short quiz to see if they understood the presentation.

Procedure

Figure out when you present

  • Click here for schedule, or check in class

  • Note that situations may occur that will change the day students present, but not the topic

Before you present

1. Go to Mr. Rose's website to look up your Math Minute

  • You’ll find all the information you need to present, as well as a sample question.

  • Note that if the sample question involves numbers, you must create your own question

2. Create a poster to use for your presentation

  • See example in class or click here

    • must include a picture or example

    • must include a written explanation

  • Mr. Rose will give you poster paper if you ask

  • If your pictures / words are too small to be seen from the back of the classroom, you must get a picture to Mr. Rose the day before you present
