Learning Objective 1.1B

Learning Objective 1.1B Students will be able to estimate limits of functions.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Strictly speaking, one must use limit theorems and algebraic rules to officially solve a limit. We haven't learned these, and yet we've been able to find any limit we want. Instead of using limit theorems and algebraic rules, we've solved all of our limits using tables and graphs. Strictly speaking though, we never actually solved any of those limits--all of our answers were just estimates. Sorry if you feel deceived. In reality, numerical information (tables) and graphs will almost always get the job done just as well as official rules.
Since they are much easier to visualize, they also provide a useful reality check, and I would use them every chance I had unless I was absolutely sure of my answer.
