Andy Tatem from the School of Geography talked about his work on mapping population and parasite mobility for malaria elimination purposes (as well as related modelling for other diseases). Lots of interesting detail on novel data sources (e.g. mobile phone records as a proxy for inter-country travel) and data/model visualisations, including the WorldPop project as an open source of world spatial demographic data.

Some interesting discussion on the role of different styles of modelling that directly use of reproduce the patterns of this data.
