Good open discussion on two types of agent-based modelling: 1) the use of a set of explicit assumptions to simply spell out what follows from them, and 2) the more general technique of building a model that then runs some adaptive or optimization process in order to reason about either the strategies that should end up dominating in a naturally adaptive situation, or about optimal (or just "good") strategies in a design situation.
