Notes: Hart and I needed to get away together for a hike...it had been awhile. He picked this great alpine lake hike outside of Vail. The drive was a bit long but we are used to driving several hours for a hike. We arrived around 9am and set off through the Aspen and pine forest to Pitkin Lake. This hike had great views and we saw only a handful of people. The Alpine lake hadn't frozen yet but the shores were covered in snow. Hart and I found a nice flat rock which was clear of snow and enjoyed our snacks and the glistening view of the lake.
On the way back down we spent some time scoping out the streams that flow from the lake. To our surprise we saw several fair sized trout. Both Hart and I couldn't believe how they had lived in the small pocket of water for years at this high elevation.
There were several falls that we passed on our way to the lake so on the way down we decided to veer off trail to take a closer look.
