Notes: Every year for my birthday a recruit old friends to join me for a weekend of birthday shananagins. It started three years ago when I begged several old Cottey classmates to fly out and join me for a weekend in a yurt. After looking up what a yurt was, they actually bought airline tickets. Year one was so much fun that most have returned for the three years since.
Duration and Difficulty: 3 miles, hard (But only because we were carrying up a lot of food and alcohol for my birthday.)Trailhead: Just off the hwy, outside of Leadville. Map My Hike Links:

This year we went to Anne's Cabin, just outside of Leadville. It is a modernly rustic cabin hand built by the owner over that last few years. The views were of a deep valley and the adjacent tree covered ledge. The climb in and out was steeper that we expected the 2 miles, 1000ft hike to be. This was partially because we were all pulling or carrying heavy packs chalk full of snacks, beer, wine, and themed dress items.
We spent out days at the cabin sledding some massive hills and playing games in our cozy cabin. We also enjoyed discussing how to operate the composting toilet and drinking Aly's annual birthday cocktail.
