Adventurers: "Hart" and I
The trail today was 90% clear from the trail-head to the top of the incline and then 90% snow packed from the top of the incline to Barr Camp. Nothing our micro spikes couldn't handle. The weather was great for hiking today. When we started it was like 50 and partially sunny the whole way to Barr Camp. The hike down was in a light snow fall but with no wind. A beautiful day!
Barr Camp is located at 10,200ft which is halfway to the summit of Pikes Peak. It is such a cool place because there are caretakers that live there year-round so after a 7 mile hike you get to arrive to a cozy cabin in the middle of the woods. You run in to several other hikers and get to have nice conversations while enjoying your lunch.
Notes:
This is a great hike that is very close to home. So often, Hart and I spend hours in the car each way to a trail-head but every now and then we have the hiking itch but simply do not want to get in the car.
Hike Duration and difficulty: 14 miles (5 hours) The first 3 miles will kick your butt, the rest is pretty easy. However. the pure length of this hike, 14 miles is not for the weak. (Click on map to see more)
Trail-head: In Mantou Springs at the Cog Train Parking lot ($5 fee to park. Make sure to park in Barr Trail lot and not incline lot which has a 3 hour limit, go past cog and make a right past main parking lot.)
