Students can use a range of tools to create digital stories.
Here we will look at creating them using Legos for characters and setting. You have two choices:
You could use characters made out of Legos, clay, paper or other materials or small objects like action figures and toy cars. You can create your own background. The main things to remember are that each movement is a separate image, so these are quite time consuming to create, and the camera must be really still, so a stand or tripod is vital. In addition to the iPad apps, there are a number of programs that can be used with images taken with a camera.
1. Learn about the application chosen (either Lego Story Starter and Story Visualizer OR one of the stop motion apps).
2. Your Challenge: Create a short story using either the Lego Story Visualizer or one of the stop motion apps with at least two characters. This doesn't have to be long but should have a beginning / middle / end or illustrate a point. Both apps are on the iPad.
3. Create a Challenge; With your partner, create a challenge that could be used in a makerspace for students at your level.
4. Create a curricular tie-in: With your partner, develop a idea to suggest to teachers for using TinkerCAD and 3D modeling tied to classroom curriculum. Include an objective, at least one relevant standard that could be included, a description of an activity, and considerations on it implementation (e.g., equipment needs, student skills, grouping, timeframe).
When you are done, make sure to put all the Legos except the baseplate back into the appropriate bins.
There are many examples of these on the Internet.
