3D Design and Modeling

There are a wide range of CAD programs that can be used to create 3D models. You'll be using TinkerCad (https://www.tinkercad.com/), a simple online CAD from Autodesk. It is best to use the Chrome browser. This video provides a brief introduction (a few tools have moved since it was created).

1. Go through lessons on one of the following sites to learn the basics:
   • Tinkercad (simple practice lessons)
   • Video lesson available in LinkedIn Learning (can look at specific segments of larger video) - Use UWW netID and password to access.
   • Print instructions for creating boat to try out an example.
2. Do Your Challenge: Create an object that would help you would like on your desk (e.g., nameplate, object / figurine from story, storage box, pencil holder, paperclip holder). Do this either individually or with your partner.
3. Create a Challenge; Create a challenge that could be used in a makerspace for students at your level.
4. Create a curricular tie-in: Develop an idea to suggest to teachers for using TinkerCAD and 3D modeling tied to classroom curriculum.
   • Include an objective, at least one relevant standard that could be included, a description of an activity, and considerations on it implementation (e.g., equipment needs, student skills, grouping, timeframe).
5. If time:
   1. Try "copy and tinker" with designs from the Gallery (https://www.tinkercad.com/things/)
   2. Test out other Autodesk products
   3. Check out SketchUp
