Cheerleader dismissed due to weight gain
A controversial weight-limit has been put on cheerleaders within the Aurora School District. The rule states that any member participating in cheerleading routines must maintain a weight of 135 lbs. or less.
Aurora High has been affected by this new rule and 15-year-old Simone Cassidy was dismissed from the team because she does not meet the new requirements. Simone is part of the Aurora High award-winning cheer squad and years of gymnastic training has contributed to her becoming a strong athlete.
The couch of Aurora High’s squad, Petra Mann, said that she had to follow the rules and she would be happy to “have Simone back, as long as she can reduce her weight by 5 or more pounds.” Simone would not comment.
