Create a Business

In this assignment, you will be creating files for a new business that you will be opening soon. Think what type of business you would like to open and think of a name for your business. Complete the following steps to create the files for your business.

Create a Logo in Microsoft Publisher

Start Microsoft Publisher and choose Blank Publications>Postcard.

1. Your logo must take up the entire space. Be original. You may "borrow" ideas from others' logos, but you must incorporate new aspects to make it your own. You may also do an internet search for "free logos" and customize one of those, but you must add something to it. Some well-known logos are shown below.
2. Save the logo as a Picture: Under File, Go to "Save As..." Change "File Name" to Businesslogo and below the file name,Save as type, change the type to "JPEG File Interchange Format" and put it in your media or pictures file.
3. You will use this Logo in all of the Microsoft Publisher assignments below.

Business Card

1. Open Microsoft Publisher.
2. Create a business card for your business. Be sure to include the following information:
• Logo
• Company Name
• Your name and title (Eg. Owner, President, Manager)
• Address
• Phone
• Email
• Web address (www.yourbusinessname.com)

3. Save the file as YourLastNameBusinessCard to your folder. Print it and hold on to it until you are finished with all of the Publisher assignments for your business.

Flyer

You decide to have an Open House party to introduce your business to the surrounding neighborhoods. Use Publisher to create a Flyer about the Open House to post around the area.

In Microsoft Publisher create a Flyer for the Open House using a Full Page. Be sure to include the following information:

1. Logo
2. Company Name
3. Address
4. The words: Open House
5. Date and Time of the Open House
6. A little information about what your company does, if it isn’t obvious
7. Promise some kind of food (E.g., Cookies and punch, hors d'oeuvres, cake)
8. Door prizes
9. Phone Tear-off with company name, contact, open house date/time (Insert>Building Blocks (Show Building Blocks Library)>Business Information>Phone Tear-off)
10. Save the file as YourLastNameBusinessFlyer to your folder.

Thank You Notes (Greeting Card)

You want to send thank you notes to the people who attended your open house. Use the steps below to create them.

1. In Microsoft Publisher choose Publications for Print >Greeting Cards >Thank You.

2. On Page 3, do the following: Select the current text box and delete it.

• Insert a coupon by doing the following:
  • Insert menu, Advertisements
  • Click on Coupon
  • Click on Insert Object button and click Yes
  • Insert your desired information on the coupon.

Sample inside card:

1. Look at the other pages in the card. Be sure to include the following items in your card:

• Thank You for Attending the Open House
• Logo
• Company Name
• Address
• Phone
• Web address

1. Save the file as YourLastNameThanks to your folder.

Hand In Printed Items

1. Arrange your printed files as follows:
   1. Business Card
   2. Flyer
   3. Thank You note

Staple them and hand them in. No need to write your name, it should be on the business card.
