A tabloid is a publication similar to a magazine, but a tabloid contains gossip, sometimes unbelievable stories and often "fake news". Examples to look at include "National Enquirer" and "Star." Have a look at them for some ideas!
Use Microsoft Publisher to create a full color, 4 page, tabloid-style newsletter.
To get to the publication format, choose "Newsletters" from the "Most Popular" templates. Scroll down to "Blank Sizes" and select "1/2 Letter Booklet 5.5 x 8.5". Double-click on the template or click on the Create button. When the prompt asks if you want to enter pages, choose "yes."

Front Page (40 points)
- Paper Name (done in word art. (needs "pizaaaz")
- Date, Cost, Volume Number
- A leading story. (50-75 words with a picture and caption) Heading should be bold and standout. Answer who, what, when, where, why and how in your story.
- A minor story (at least 25 words) with picture and caption
- Story font size not to exceed 14.
- A barcode (do an image search for "barcode")
- Things you would find on the front page of a newspaper (index [table of contents], weather, lotto numbers, etc.)
- Pages 2-3. Section Pages (Sports, Entertainment, Business, Technology, etc.) (60 points)
- A heading on the page telling what section it is (sports, entertainment, etc.)
- Two different stories with headlines (pictures, etc.)
- One or two commercial advertisements (borders around each of the advertisements)
- A table (ex. NFL standings, chess championship, etc.). Facts may be fictional.
- Page 4 Classified Ads (30 points)
- One large commercial ad
- Classified ads/listings with items for sale
- Help wanted ads
- Personal ads (Missed Connections, Looking for Love, etc.), but keep them professional and school appropriate
- Picture Skill Criteria (30 points)
- At least...
- 1 clipart
- Several internet pictures
- Publisher Skill Criteria
- 2 pieces of “Word Art”
- Use of borders on pictures throughout (custom and line)
- Artistic Skill Criteria (40 points)
- /10 Consistency. Is there a similar design theme throughout your paper? ( Do you use fonts that fit with each other? Does each page have a similar design theme?)
- /10 Appropriate. Does you selection of shapes and design elements go with the theme of your paper?
- /10 Page Utilization. Are all parts of the 4 pages used?
- /10 Readability. Is your paper easy to read? Does the text standout?
- 200 POINTS TOTAL!
