Already Been Baptized

BACKGROUND

Those Christians who recognize the necessity of baptism have in many cases "given their lives to

Christ" through participation in this ordinance. In many cases, baptism is not seen as a washing away

of sins, but merely a declaration of their discipleship to Christ. Most of these individuals are very

sincere and feel that they have given their life to the Savior and thus do not need "another baptism".

Performing the ordinance again may seem like a denunciation of their former "turning to Christ".

Because they feel they were sincere, and the person performing the ordinance was sincere, they deem

it unnecessary and in some cases offensive when we teach that they must be baptized again.

We must help investigators understand:

1) Others have also needed re-baptism.

2) Baptism must be administered by one holding the proper authority
