Israel of the Covenant
O Israel!
Covenants
A covenant means a sacred agreement or mutual promise between God and a person or a group of people.
When people make covenants with the Lord, they know what he expects of them and what blessings they may expect from him. They can better carry out his work on earth.
The Gathering of the House of Israel
The house of Israel are God's Covenant People. (Deuteronomy 32:7-9; Deuteronomy 28:9-10)
The people who covenant with the Lord and with whom the Lord makes covenants are know as the Lord's covenant people.
God promised that the Iseralites would be his covenant people as long as they would obey his commandments (Deuteronomy 28:9-10)
Deuteronomy 28:64
Reasons for Gathering
Israel needs to learn the teaching of the gospel and prepare themselves to meet the saviour.
Israelites have the responsibility of building temples and performing sacred ordinances for ancestors.
Covenanted people must take the gospel to all nations.
They must fulfil the covenant to be a blessing to all the world.
The Abrahamic Covenant (Abraham 2:9-11; Genesis 17:4-8)
Two groups of people are included
Abraham's righteous blood descendants.
Those adopted into his lineage by accepting and living the gospel of Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:26-29)
The New and Everlasting Covenant
The fullness of the gospel is called the new and everlasting covenant.
“everlasting” because it is ordained by an everlasting God and because the covenant will never be changed.
“new” because each time the gospel is restored after being taken from the earth, it is new to the people who receive it. (Jeremiah 31:31-34; Ezekiel 37:26)
