I send you the last of a five piece art series about my dear friend Lilly Bye and what she learned when cloistered with her feathered friends in Birdland. This piece is titled and inscribed on the bottom as follows: #5 Lilly Bye of Birdland ......learned to appreciate each new day and welcome it in with a song". The piece is 6" long x 6" wide x 6 1/2" high.
As we age, we become more appreciative of each new day and those we have been fortunate to have had. In younger days we too often took them somewhat for granted. We loved them if some great event was happening. We were indifferent if it was a work day or one involving the same old routines. We grimaced if it was one that we had to fulfill obligations or have to face certain realities. We put off on many occasions to tomorrow what we should have been doing that day. We often grumbled when we awoke and it was snowing, raining or the weather man was predicting record high temperatures. Somehow we forgot that it was just great to be alive. Basically, in many ways we short changed ourselves. We didn't quite understand that time wasn't limitless and you can't get it back when it's gone.
Age alone doesn't make us more conscious/alert of our remaining time. Too often a severe illness or a friends departure rings a loud bell. Perhaps Lilly Bye is telling us all, both young and old, to not only be aware that time is not limitless, but to be thankful to have one more day. Greeting each morning with a song sounds like a good idea to me.
Hope you have enjoyed this art series. Know Lilly enjoyed presenting it to you.
