They left Jubeck on January 28, 1904 (which was Anna Christina's birthday) to sail to America according to Wayne Petersen. They arrived at Tilden, and stayed with John & Matta (Petersen) Michaelsen.

~~~
Grandpa (Carsten Hansen) & Grandma (Margaretha Michaelsen) came to America from Germany in 1904. Grandma's two brothers John & Peter were already here. When great Uncle John & great Aunt Meta went to Germany to Visit they became fond of Uncle Carsten (Curly) & wanted to bring him to America. So with Grandpa & Grandma's consent they brought him to America. With parents & family being so lonesome with his absence they decided to join their son in America.
While living in Germany they were members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Grandpa's occupation was farming.
Before leaving Germany they purchased land, unseen, from Peter and after arriving in New York they went to his home in Tilden, Nebr. and stayed with him for a week. Then they went to their farm in Dutch Hollow 10 miles N.W. of Tilden. They lived there until 1914 when they moved to Neligh. After grandpa's death in 1935 Grandma moved to Tilden where she lived until her death in 1981.
This is a picture of Great Grandmother Hansen and some of her children. I believe this was taken in the late 1940’s when John came to Tilden to visit her and other relatives in the area. I had mentioned to you before that he had make the trip in about 1948 and had his youngest son Tomas with him. I think Thomas had just graduated from high school.
Those in the picture are John Hansen, Carsten (Curly) Hansen, Margaret Ritter, Hans Hansen, Anna Petersen (Wayne Petersen's mother) and BIG Frieda Hansen. Grandmother (MARGARETHA HANSEN) is sitting in the chair.
These were the children that lived in the area when John came to visit.
(Missing from this photo is Emma Hansen Nordahl and Thomas Hansen who was deceased at the time the picture was taken)
Margaretha's 80th birthday party
It includes her Daughters, Daughter-in laws, Granddaughters, and Great-granddaughters that lived in the area at that time. The lady sitting on the left of her was Frieda Hansen and the lady on the far left of the picture is Frieda Hansen (Curly, Carsten’s wife. We called them big and little Frieda.)
FR: ELAINE PETERSEN, dk, MARGARETHA HANSEN (wife of Carsten), BIG FRIDA HANSEN (John Hansen's sister), dk, dk, NORMA ANN PETERSEN (daughter of Carsten Petersen), dk
2nd Row: LITTLE FRIDA (Curley Hansen's wife), WALTER PETERSEN, JR (child), LORRAINE VOIGHT PETERSEN, dk, dk, LISA SCHNOOR (married to Henry Schnoor), dk, dk, dk, dk, dk, dk
BR: Don't know any except the very back to the right (looking over the shoulder of the lady with the kid in front of her) RUTH HAWKINGS PETERSEN
Two rows behind and to the right of Margaretha Hansen is ANNA CHRISTINA HANSEN PETERSEN (who is the mother of Wayne Petersen)
Another family gathering at Curly Carsten Hansen’s farm. Curly is the dark haired person with a white shirt in the middle of the back row. Other member that are the M. J. Petersen’s, with some of their children, John Michelson and his wife ( Who was Margaretha’s brother and brought Curly to this country when he was 10 years old. Which really caused the rest of the family to come here in 1904. Also the Bill Ritter family which is on the right side of the pictures. WAYNE PETERSEN is the second boy on the left. The lady directly behind him in the white dress and looking directly at the camera is ANNA CHRISTINA HANSEN PETERSEN. WILLIAM RITTER is on the far right leaning on the tree. To the left of him is BIG FREDA HANSEN (Curley's sister and John Hansen's sister), According to Wayne Petersen, the man in the back row (second from the right) is incorrectly labeled. He is NOT HAROLD RITTER. The 4th to the right in the back row is EDWIN HANSEN, who is the son of Frida Hansen. Wayne Petersen's brother CARSTEN PETERSEN is the 3rd person in the back row from the left. Wayne Petersen's father is the tall guy 2nd from the left in the back row with the tie...his name is Mathias Joseph (MJ) PETERSEN. The lady on the far left side is MJ's mother, MARY REBECCA PETERSEN. The MR & MRS JOHN MICHAELSON's identification is incorrect according to Wayne Petersen.
You probably notice by the previous picture that my [Eldon Schoor] grandmother was also a Hansen but a brother of August. So there is a little double relationship there.
