The ARK of Covenant.

When the father of man , Hazrat Adam Alihissalam settled on earth he brought with him some of the paradisal perfumes, the Black Stone ( Al Aswad ) which was originally whiter than snow, the staff of Prophet Moosa Alihissalam made from myrtle of Jannat having the length of 5 meters as Moosa Alihissalam and among other things Adam alihissalam brought from paradise was the "TABUT" , meaning the ARK of Covenant.

In Arabic Tabut means a type of chest or box. This term also designates the chest made of osier in which the child Moosa Alihissalam was placed by his mother due to the situation created by Pharaoh. The term TABUT is derived from the word Taba which means Return, thus making allusion to the return of mercy which you will inshallah discover through this story.

We want to pin point here that though the Tabut found in the Holy Quran( S 2:248) is identified as the Biblical term, Ark of Covenant, yet it is two different things . Contrary to what the old testament attributed to the origin of the ARK of Covenant , TABUT is mentioned in the islamic tradition to have a heavenly origin particularly commenting on chapter two verse 248 of Glorious Quran.

The Tabut is a chest of acacia wood covered and lined with pure gold. Its dimensions is 5ft*3ft*3ft. Its golden lid was to be the Mercy Seat with two cherubims of beaten gold (emerald or rubies as per commentator al-Baizawi )with wings outstretched. Formerly the ARK contained the images of all Prophets from Adam Alihissalam to the LAST Prophet Muhammed Sallahoalihiwasallam (peace be upon them ).

After death of Adam Alihissalam the Tabut wa sin possession of Prophet Shis Alihissalam and then was shifted to other prophets by prophetic lineage.
