I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

and twinkle on the Milky Way,

They stretched in never-ending line

along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay,

in such a jocund company:

I gazed - and gazed - but little thought

what wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

נדדתי בדד כענן קטון

השט גבוה מעל העמקים וההרים,

כאשר לפתע ראיתי קהל עם רב,

המון של נרקיסים זהובים,

בצד האגם, ומתחת לעצים,

מרקדים מרחפים ברוח הקלה.

רבים ככוכבי השמים המאירים

והמנצנצים בשביל החלב,

בשורה שאין לה סוף

לאורך שולי המפרץ;

ועשר רבבות ראיתי במבט אחד,

מניעים את ראשיהם ברקדם, עליזים כפיות.

והגלים לצדם חוללו, אך הם

עלו על הגלים בזוהר ובעליצות;

ולא ניתן למשורר אלא לעלוץ,

בחברה כל עליזה;

רבות התבוננתי – ומחשבה אחת קטנה עלתה בי

כמה עושר העניק לי המחזה.

ולעתים רבות, בשכבי על הספה

בעודי מהרהר או כשאני חש ריקנות מכל מחשבה,

עולים הם בעיני רוחי, כברק

רוח אשר מעניקה אושר לבדידות,

The holy time is quiet as a Nun

Dear Child! dear Girl! that walkest with me here,

If thou appear untouched by solemn thought,

Thy nature is not therefore less divine:

Thou liest in Abraham's bosom all the year;

And worship'st at the Temple's inner shrine,

God being with thee when we know it not.

תרגום

ערב רב יופי שלו וחופשי הוא זה,

הזמן המקודש, שקט כנזירה

העוצרת את נשימתה בהערצה; השמש הרחבה

שוקעת ברוגע;

רוך הרקיע עוטף את הים בכנפיו;

הקשיבי! האל רב העצמה ער,

והוא, בטבע המשתנה ללא הרף ומתפתח, משמיע קולו

רועם לנצח.

ילדה יקרה, נערה יקרה, את הפוסעת כאן עמי,

נראה כי לא נוּגעת עוד במחשבות כבדות

My heart leaps up when I behold

A Rainbow in the sky:

So was it when my life began;

So is it now I am a man;

So be it when I shall grow old,

Or let me die!

The Child is father of the man;

לבי מנתר כשאני מתבונן

בקשת ברקיע;

כך היה כשהחלתי את חיי;

כך עתה, בהיותי גבר;

כך יהיה לכשאזקין,

או תנני למות!

הילד הוא אביו של הגבר;

ואינני מבקש אלא שימי חיי

יהיו כרוכים זה בזה בדבק של אמונה טבעית.
