In October it still feels like spring in Marbella, even though it is autumn, at least when I walked the 4 Days of Marbella. During the day you can wear short sleeves and there is enough vitamin D present due to the presence of the sun. The sun is then there in Spain more powerful than in The Netherlands. Early in the morning, at the beginning of the day when theof starts, a jacket or sweater is necessary to keep the muscles warm.
The area around Marbella is one of the most beautiful areas of Spain. In addition to the 4-day walk of Marbella, there are several excursions possible to see the beauty of the area. Tourist attractions near Marbella are Caminito del Rey, the White Village, the beach and Gibraltar. Due to my short stay and the 4-day walk of Marbella, I did not have time to see everything. I chose to walk Caminito del Rey. Caminito del Rey is one of the oldest and most spectacular hiking trails through the mountains. When I was there in 2019, it was safe to walk Caminito El Rey, because it had been restored. Check in advance if it is still open.
A recommended luxury is to stay in an all-inclusive resort where all meals are prepared before and after returning from hiking. The advantages of this is that I don't have to cook myself, I don't have to find a restaurant myself, the food pyramid (schijf van 5) can be found in the buffet and there is a wide choice of food. The disadvantages are that the buffet offers the same choices every day and I sit in the same restaurant 3 times a day. I'm not a fan of all-inclusive, but when I am hiking 20 km or more abroad for 4 days in a row, it is a luxury that I am happy to use and on a cruise ship there is often no other option.
The 4Days of Marbella is well organized and starts all 4 days from the same square in the center, but I walked a different route every day. The finish is also on this square. There is a supermarket under the square, but pay attention to Spanish opening hours. The routes are beautiful and there is a choice of three different lengths to choose from. 10 km means walking through the city of Marbella and not seeing much of the surroundings. The 30 km makes an extra loop every day. The loop is not always interesting. I walked the 20 km every day. I recommend the 20 km, because both the city and the surroundings are worth seeing, especially on foot. I got a chip and there are stamp checks along the way, as well as toilets and sometimes a snack. A great choice to end or extend the walking season.
*I walked 4Daagse Of Marbella in 2019. I stayed far away from the party each night after the hike on the start and finish square and also the all-inclusive party at the hotel. I have never been a party animal and I will never be one. I stayed at the quiet part of the hotel.
