This route is highly recommended by me. There are some climbs, a helmet is mandatory. It is a route that requires payment. I did not mind paying for this route as maintenance is definitely needed on this route and the safety staff also needs to be paid. Be aware that it is a hike in a Canyon area. The walk takes hours, because of the climbing. Some parts are by stairs going up and down, again and again. Although the route itself is 5 km as the crow flies (hemelsbreed). The view is phenomenal! Water, trains, deep valleys, sharp edges of mountains and bridges. Camera is allowed! Water is definitely needed on a hot day and sunscreen.
Unfortunately, it cannot be walked alone, it is always with a guide or group. On some parts the group is herded together or part of it for explanation about a climb or where to look out. When instructions of the safety people are followed the route is safe to walk and nobody has to be afraid of falling of the edges.
Rivers below me, the train rushing past and high above me the peaks. Breathtaking, I looked my eyes out, I took many photos and enjoyed the walk. Unfortunately some physical condition is required. A smaller part can be walked if not fit, see the Caminito Del Rey website for that.
It is not easy to get there, therefor I chose to go with a tour. The only thing is that the tour goes along different boarding places in this part of Spain. I also saw Malaga and some other tourist towns in the area, twice. On the way to Caminito Del Rey and on the way back to Marbella. I hiked Caminito Del Rey, when I hiked the 4 Days of Marbella in 2019 and stayed in an hotel around Marbella.
