The *Camino Portuguese and especially the coastal route that I had walked is not yet very popular with Camino walkers and has not been signed for very long. This makes the route relatively quiet. Especially the first part from Lisbon to Porto, sometimes I don't see another pilgrim all day.
I get used to the silence and I am occupied with the environment and my thoughts. Even when I walk in company I am sometimes in thoughts.
The conversations are beautiful and about life. In the beginning mainly about the Camino. But if I walk a little longer together with another person and it clicks, the walk and the conversations are layered and the conversations go deeper and deeper into the real reasons for which I walk the Camino.
After walking I am so used to the silences and tranquility that when the routes come together I am shocked by that little extra crowds. A second shock follows when I walk into Santiago, what a people and the third shock comes when I am home again and I have to worry about all kinds of things again and everybody is trying to make me go on dates, work 40 hours, go to parties, eat together all the time.
I would love to hike another Camino again. I kept on hiking after the Camino in 2016! It is hard to find a balance in life that I found on the Camino and in travels when back at first. After that I found it in Arnhem and Eindhoven and now getting that in Utrecht area. I am back in my home area and all the people want a piece of me, but I don't want all of them. I just want quiet peace, hiking, being an entrepreneur, travel, and my quiet home. My contacts I get from the workshops, hiking, courses I follow and the clients I work for.
*I hiked the camino to think about what I wanted further from life and Databeet, not to party like some do on the Camino. I talked while hiking with my fellow hikers, but did not party with them or others. I am not a party animal and liked the quietness and calmness of the camino.
