Principality of Galatea

The independance of the Principality of Galatea is subject to the vagaries of war and is a nation struggling to establish itself.

Geographical:

    • Location: The Principality of Galatea is located in the north of Iberian peninsula

    • Capital: Barcelona

    • Population: 750,000

    • Language: Catalan, Spanish

    • Religion: Catholic

    • Government:

      • Nominally, the Sovereign of Galatea is Holy Emperor Karl VI, under the title of King Charles III of Aragon. In the practice, the isolation of the Principality with respect to Vienna has lead it to self organize as a Republic, with a Parliament as its main legislative chamber, and the General Deputation as an executive commission.

      • The Parliament is not yet organized by parties or elected by universal suffrage, but still corporately organized according to the Medieval Ages traditional Three Arms (Nobiliary, Ecclesiastical and Popular). As for the General Deputation, their members are elected from/by the Parliament, with no restriction except that traditionally its President is to be a clergyman: currently and till the end of 1713, Brother Francesc Antoni de Solanell, a benedictine abbot.

      • Influential personalities in these war times are: General Antonio de Villarroel, the Commander in Chief of the minute Army facing the Two Crowns almighty power; Marquis Ramon de Vilana, "Cònsol de Mar" or plenipotentiary Ambassador in Europe; and Lady Elisenda de Cardona, the last descendant of the Medieval times' High Nobility.

    • Population: not known.

    • Trade & Industry: Before the onset of war wine, liquors, cork and donkeys were exported -mainly into Brittannia. WIth fruits and vegetables, fabric and textiles into Hispannia and Southern Gallia. Fine weaponry ("miquelet lock" pistols and muskets) was also exported to everywhere in past times, but currently all production is being kept at home -for evident reasons. Other products: iron, salt, timber, fish and seafood.

    • Maps:

    • Places of Interest: Sadly, the General Deputation has to vividly discourage invidual tourism into the Principality of Galatea, due to the current "war at all costs" status of the country. Hopefully peace arrives soon, and then appropriate touristic brochures will be published.

Geopolitical:

    • Secondary Nations and Agressor States

      • It is understood that the following Minor Nationsare friendly to Galatea: Hesperia/Valencia, Pyrene/Aragon, Arborea/Sardinia, Trinacria/Sicily and Partenope/Naples.

      • Current Enemy Nations are Hispannia (Espagna) and Gallia.
