parkrun organise free, weekly (Saturday at 9.00am), 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and encourage people of every ability to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience; parkrun welcomes everyone.
Over the 15 months of its existence, Pomphrey Hill parkrun (www.parkrun.org.uk/pomphreyhill/) in has welcomed runners from 138 different running clubs. Twenty-three clubs have been represented by more than 5 different club members - but Emersons Green Running Club members lead the way with 723 runs completed: www.parkrun.org.uk/pomphreyhill/results/clublist/.
In celebration of our common love of running and the diversity of running clubs in the Bristol/Bath/South Gloucestershire area, Pomphrey Hill parkrun has designated Saturday 13th June 2015 as a “Club Day” parkrun; all runners will be encouraged to wear their club kit for the run and Club leaders and members are welcome to bring club flags, banners, race flyers and anything else they wish to display/promote/flaunt.
“Club Day” will be a great opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones whilst promoting the benefits of being a running club member to those who are not members of clubs at present. Some EGRC members form part of the core team at Pomphrey Hill so we hope lots more will get involved.
You don’t need to do much to be part of “Club Day” simply:
1. come along
2. register with parkrun (www.parkrun.org.uk) and bring along a printed barcode to the event
3. advise those new to parkrun that there is a pre-run briefing at 8.45am which will tell them everything they need to know about parkrun
Finally, as it's around the time of our 3rd birthday, why not bring some cake to share after the run!
Note that parkruns are runs not races and whilst times and finishing positions are recorded, a parkrun is more of a social run with friends rather than competitive event.
