Clarifying Affiliation

Post date: Feb 15, 2015 11:46:18 PM

Your (non-EA affiliated) EGRC membership entitles you to affiliated entry to all ARC events.

This is separate to the additional £12 individual England Athletics affiliation, which entitles you to affiliated entry to UKA events. In this case, you are usually asked for your affiliation number.

Generally then, you therefore have to enter 6 UKA races a year to get see a return on your £12. The exception to this is runbristol events (eg. Bristol 10K/Half) - for these, an additional club discount (usually 35%) is also offered to EA/UKA affiliated members only.

Gordon has written the article below to explain this in further detail.

------------------------------------------------

Emersons Green Running Club affiliates to:-

England Athletics/ United Kingdom Athletics. (EA, UKA)

and

The Association of Running Clubs. (ARC)

EA has a non compulsory individual affiliation, which now costs £12 in addition to your EGRC membership. This entitles you to enter a race which has a UKA license/permit, at a discounted rate, normally £2. On the entry form you will be asked to input your affiliated club name i. e. Emersons Green RC and your personal affiliation number. You can still enter UKA permitted races even if you are not EA affiliated, entering your affiliated club, EGRC, on the form, and simply pay the extra £2.

Most of the races in this area are not permitted by UKA they are ARC permitted races.

EGRC affiliates to ARC which includes individual affiliation of all its members. There are no personal affiliation numbers allocated and no additional cost to your membership of EGRC.

ARC permitted races simply ask for your affiliated club which entitles you to the £2 reduction. The races are also open to runners who are not ARC affiliated but they would have to pay the £2 unaffiliated.

Included with permits from either organisation is insurance cover for the race and a set of rules and standards the race should comply with.

Many races, particularly organised by companies are not permitted by UKA or ARC. So rules and safety standards are not necessarily applied. What insurance cover they may have, or not have, is unclear.
