Adrian's Marathon Awareness Campaign

I'm now 16 weeks through a 17-week long target of running the London Marathon. In reality, the story began back in September 2013, when a red Virgin envelope landed on the doormat. Officially, the training began in mid-December - back down to earth after the Christmas Cracker "fun run", away with the EGRC Fairies, in Weston Super Mare.

There have, of course, been high and low points through this training. With a 22 mile run successfully completed 2 weeks ago, myself and club mate and training partner Jon Doyle are as ready as we can be for the main event. Thanks to Jon for keeping me (mostly) sane on the long runs, and even more thanks to all the other runners that have kept us company along the way.

I am dedicating this run to raising awareness of ForLuca's campaign. I have raised money for this cause on previous landmark distance runs; this time I'm just asking everyone to spread the word and follow this young man's amazing story of his battle with Meningococcal Septicaemia.

The campaign took a big boost on 21st March this year, when the Government started the process to provide a vaccine, called Bexsero, to all babies against this disease. We tried, unsuccessfully, to get our own son onto the trial for this vaccine - but it's good news that, in Luca's own words, "no one else will have to go through what I did".

Despite his bravery and fantastic spirit, this will still affect Luca in every aspect of his future. If you would like to donate on my behalf, then please do so using the official links below.

Thanks for reading, and hope to see a few faces along the 26.2 miles next weekend!

Adrian.

Luca's Biography

Luca is a beautiful 5 year old who was struck down with Meningococcal Septicaemia in early January and his life changed forever... This horrendous disease ravaged every part of his body in hours and left him fighting for his life! With less than a 3% chance of survival Luca pulled through however he was not unscathed...

Luca lost both of his legs and all of his tissue, some muscle and skin below his hips. We are raising funds to cover the lifetime costs of specialist prosthetics not available on NHS giving Luca every chance to excel in every aspect of his future.
