Divine Magic, also called Sacred Power or Blessed Energy, is the channeling of supernatural forces through faith, devotion, or divine will. Unlike arcane power, which is seized through study or birthright, divine magic flows as a gift from higher beings, ancestral spirits, or cosmic principles. It is shaped by prayer, ritual, and obedience to tenets greater than the self.
Those who wield divine magic are often conduits rather than controllers, their power rising and falling with their devotion. While less volatile than arcane energies, divine magic binds the caster to duties and expectations. Some societies revere divine casters as priests and healers, while others fear them as zealots who speak with gods’ voices.
Divine magic is fueled by a caster’s bond with the sacred or the divine. Grace represents the favor, blessing, or spiritual vitality a spellcaster channels into their magic. This energy may be drawn from a deity, pantheon, ancestor, or sacred oath.
Grace Pool: A divine caster’s Grace Pool is determined by their normal spells per day, including bonus slots gained from high ability scores. The total number of spell levels available becomes the caster’s pool of Grace.
Casting: Divine casters spend Grace to prepare prayers or invoke them spontaneously, depending on their class. The cost is equal to the spell’s level. For example, a 2nd-level spell costs 2 Grace to cast.
Divine casters, those who draw power from their gods or deities, are often blessed with profound strength and purpose. However, the deeper they immerse themselves in the teachings and doctrines of their faith, the more they risk becoming overwhelmed by the divine force they channel. The more a divine caster advances in their faith, the more they may succumb to zealotry—a dangerous devotion that can warp their sense of reality and judgment. The impact of this zealotry depends on the alignment of their deity and their religion's tenets, pushing the caster toward either fanatical devotion or dangerous extremism.
For every caster level gained in Divine Magic after first level, characters must make a Will save or become increasingly zealous in their devotion to their deity. This can lead to shifts in their behavior, mindset, and alignment. The intensity of the caster's devotion is tied to their alignment and the nature of their god, manifesting in a different set of effects depending on whether they worship a good, neutral, evil, chaotic, or lawful deity.
Will Save DC: The save DC for each level is equal to 10 + 1 per caster level in Divine Magic already possessed.
