Adding sockets to items allows the user to insert Magic Gems and Ioun Stones into weapons and apparel providing the wearer/wielder with magical bonuses. Most skilled Blacksmiths and Jewelers are capable of adding sockets to items. Most weapons and armors can have sockets added, as well as many other items (at GM’s discretion).
Gems and Ioun Stones can be placed into empty sockets by anyone with the appropriate item crafting skill and a successful craft check (DC 10 Craft “Appropriate Skill”; Failure: Gem/Stone Drops one quality level; Gems/Stone already at lowest quality level are destroyed). A Gems or Stones that has been placed in a socket cannot be removed without breaking the item and Gem/Stone, unless done by someone trained in the appropriate item crafting with a successful craft check (DC 20 Craft “Appropriate Skill”; Failure: item gains broken condition, items with existing broken condition are destroyed; on Failure the Gem/Stone is always destroyed).
The effects of a Gem or Ioun Stone are not effective until after the Gem or Stone has been placed in a socket for 24 hours.
Magic Gems and Ioun Stones come in four orders of quality (Perfect/Cracked/Flawed/Flawed Cracked).
Perfect: Gem or Ioun Stone is as it was intended to be;
Cracked: The Gem or Ioun Stone is damaged and functions at a lower intensity of the same effect as the perfect;
Flawed: The Gem or Ioun Stone functions at the same intensity as a perfect but carries a side effect.
Flawed Cracked: The Gem or Ioun Stone is damaged and functions at a lower intensity of the same effect as a Flawed gem. (The side effect is not reduced)
Damaging Stones:
Perfect > Cracked > Destroyed
Flawed > Flawed Cracked > Destroyed
Adding sockets to an item beyond its Maximum Socket limit (at GM's discretion) costs the same as the last socket added, but reduces the item's hardness by decrements of 5 per socket beyond max. An item that will be reduced to 0 hardness cannot have additional sockets added. (Example: A 1H Steel Longsword has a 3rd socket added; the Hardness of the item is reduced from 10 to 5; a 4th socket is not possible because it will reduce the hardness to 0.) The checks to add or remove Gems and Stones increases by 5 per additional socket when the item has more than the "Maximum Socket" limit. (Example: A 1H Steel Longsword with a third socket has a DC 15 Craft "Weapon" check to place a Gem or Stone in any of its 3 sockets. The same sword has a DC 25 Craft "Weapon" check to remove any of the three Gems or Stones.)

DESCRIPTION
An Amber Gemstone contains within it a frozen pocket of time that when unleashed allows the activator to temporarily step out of normal space time. The Amber Gemstone can be activated as a swift action. Time and space appear to stop from the perspective of the activator, and he/she can move about the environment and act as normal. The stress of displacing oneself from time is extreme, however the activator may use it at no real risk for one full round per 24 hrs, each additional round inflicts 1d4 constitution drain for every full round spent out of time. Upon dying or falling unconscious the body of the activator returns to normal time. If the activator moves while displaced from time, to everyone else it will appear that they have simply vanished or teleported. Activating the Gemstone stops combat until the activator returns to normal time. The activator gains a +5 bonus to all attack rolls while out of time and all targets are considered Helpless. When an Amber Gemstone is activated anyone within 100 ft. who also has an Amber Gemstone can as an immediate action step out of time as well, when this happens during combat the usual initiative rules apply to all those out of time.

A Dragon Stone also commonly referred to as a Draconic Lump is composed of fragments of precious metals and jewels that have been melted together and formed into small shiny stones in the digestive tract of a dragon over the course of several decades. DESCRIPTION
A Frozen Soul is a small blue Gemstone that emanates a soft white light when charged. It acts as an Aegis of Recovery but does not break upon activating, instead it grows dark until charged again. When a creature with 10 HD or less dies within 10 ft. of an uncharged Frozen Soul part of the creature’s soul is consumed by the gemstone. Consuming souls recharges the Gemstone, 10HD worth of souls must be consumed for it to be fully charged and it cannot hold more than 10HD. Creatures whose souls have been consumed by the gemstone cannot be contacted after death by spells like speak with dead or resurrected by a spell less than Resurrection. Restoring life to a creature whose Soul has been consumed by a Frozen Soul, and used to restore life to the wearer can only be accomplished with True Resurrection with a 50% fail chance. On a failure no additional attempts can be made, and the creature can only be restored by a Deity.
