Retract (Ex): As a move action, a giant snail can retreat into its shell, gaining +4 natural armor and total cover. While retracted, its speed is reduced to 0 and it cannot attack. It may emerge as a move action.
Slime (Ex): The snail leaves a trail of slick mucus. Squares it passes through are treated as difficult terrain for 1 minute. On a successful slam attack, the target must succeed on a DC 14 Reflex save or be entangled for 1 round. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Environment temperate forests, marshes, or caves
Organization solitary or pair
Treasure none (but see shell)
Giant snails are lumbering herbivores found in damp forests and mossy glades. They are not naturally aggressive and usually ignore other creatures. When threatened, they retreat into their shells or attempt to slime would-be attackers before slowly sliding away. Their shells are highly prized by hunters and craftsmen for durable, lightweight armor.
