Special Activities - September 2026
On 9 September, Pablo's Practica will host the first night of Yolanda's Birthday Extravaganza, which will include special guests, a special performance, and a cake.
The prácticas originally scheduled for September September 16, 23, and 30 will actually be lessons (not práctica) with visting artists Juan Cantone and Virginia Cutillo (https://sertango.ar/en/)
Juan Cantone & Virginia Cutillo will be teaching at the Practica for 3 Wednesdays starting Wenesday September 16th. There are 2 classes on the same topic per Wednesday, but the first class is for Intermediates, while the second one is for Intermediate Advanced. Come learn with us!
General name of the series: “Embodying Movement”
Sept 16th: We will anchor ourselves in the technical aspect of dance, developing presence in time and form, precision, and efficiency—from the individual to the collective. Homework exercises and musical appreciation. *Bonus:* A fun boleo for the dance floor.
Sept 23rd: Focusing on the musical aspect, we will synchronize rhythmic elements with solo and partner movements. Musical appreciation brought into the body and adapted to the partner and the space, with an introduction to melody. *Bonus:* A fun colgada for the dance floor.
Sept 30th: We will inhabit the stylistic aspect: Salon, Milonguero, Romantic, and Nuevo. We will explore the historical framework and the experience of milonguero masters, interpreted and explained through movement. Key sequences based on foundational movements.*Yapa!* Bonus: one useful and interesting vals sequence and one milonga sequence.
Logistics:Time: 7:30-9:00 Intermediate class, 9:00-10:30 Intermediate advanced. Cost: $20 for one class, $30 for two classes, cash at the door ONLY.

Pablo's Práctica
We are so excited to be holding Pablo's Práctica in person on Wednesdays at 7:30pm-10:30pm!
Culture: We want to be a space that honors the spirit of Pablo Fontana who taught us to support one another, to grow as dancers and build a welcoming community through humility and kindness. Pablo's Practica is a place where dancers from across the DC community (and visitors!) can have mutual exchange and communal learning. We do that through "Circle Time," "Hello Stranger Dance," snacks, community announcements, and periodic lessons. Circle time 7:30-8pm.
Lyon Village Community Center: We rent from wonderful people, who have done a great job renovating the floors and kitchen. We want to honor their work by keeping the space clean and refraining from using any powder on the floor. We recommend ordering "dance socks" for those that like a slippery surface to pivot.
Cost: Initially, we will keep the entry to $5 and appreciate your flexibility as we figure out the finances after two years of virtual meetings and decide if the price needs to increase. Workshops will be priced separately.
Workshops: We will hold workshops three months spread out throughout the calendar year.

BACKGROUND
A group of Pablo Fontana's students started this practica to remember the many great things he taught us and to maintain the great friendships we made at his Wednesday night class at Lyon Village Community House. Everyone, however, is welcome here! Our goals are the following:
1. Keep alive Pablo’s dedication to good technique, improvisation, and versatility rather than steps and patterns
2. Keep learning and improving as tango dancers
3. Keep this wonderful group of people together
4. Create a welcoming atmosphere for new people
5. Have fun and keep a sense of humor
